About Us

TED is the brainchild of Richard Saul Wurman and was first hosted 33 years ago in 1984. Since then the organisation has constantly evolved and grown with one purpose: to share ideas worth spreading. Speakers come from all over the world to share ground-breaking inventions, unique insights, and much more. Field covered include art, music, society, design, business, biology, health & disease, future technologies, alternative energy, and it keeps on going. The vast universe of ideas and initiatives that is TED today – TED, TEDGlobal, TEDx, TED-Ed, TEDWomen, TEDActive, TED Radio Hour, etc. – are a result of Chris Anderson’s effort to allow anyone to be touched by great ideas. His non-profit called the Sapling Foundation purchased the conference in 2001 and has not looked back since. If you want to find out more about TED’s history or the organisation itself head over to TED.com

What does tedx stand for?

TEDx events in contrast are independently organised events (x=independently organised TED event) all over the world. Same as big TED conference TEDx events are held in the spirit of TED with inspiring and mind changing talks. On 20 May Aston University will host its third TEDx event. This year the theme of the event is “The Time is Now”. We are looking forward to explore “Time” as a precious resource of the 21st century and get inspired by the speakers talking about the importance of taking action now, not waiting for tomorrow or looking back at yesterday.
